Crazy Hat Day

Today was Crazy Hat Day in school. Coby chose to wear his Stormy hat (Stormy is the Carolina Hurricane's mascot.) He got the hat on his 6th birthday, when we celebrated at a Cane's game. Stormy came to visit us in our seats, and gave Coby a hat, a backpack, and hockey stick. It took several shots to get a good photo of Coby in his crazy hat, but I finally got a couple of good ones.

Coby In The Bath

Today was Pajama Day at school. Coby wore 3 sets of pajamas today; the pair he woke up in this morning, the pair he changed into for school, and the pair he put on after bath tonight. Bathtime was fun. Coby got to play in the bubbles, and he made a mustache out of the bubbles which was soooo cute! After bath he got into mommy's and daddy's bed for reading. What a fun night!

Purim!

Today is Purim. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this Jewish holiday, it celebrates the Jews being saved from a Persian King and his advisor, Haman, by a Jew named Mordechai and his niece, Esther. We celebrate Purim by reading the Megillah (the story of Purim) and by dressing up in costumes and eating Hamantaschen (cookies that are shaped like Haman's ears). I took Coby to Chabad House (one of the temples in the area) so he could experience this celebration. He dressed up like a pirate, and even ate an "ear." While he wasn't thrilled about sitting and listening to the story read in Hebrew (which he doesn't understand), he got to hang out with some friends he hadn't seen in a while, and later admitted he didn't have such an awful time after all.

Skating Party

We went to a roller skating party today for one of Coby's friends, Alynna. Coby had a great time, and even I tried to skate (I put on roller blades and succeeded in going around a few times without hurting myself or anyone else.) Interestingly enough, roller blades are easier to skate with than regular skates. Go figure!

Spare Some For Autism

When Coby was 2 years old, he was diagnosed with high-functioning autism. With early intervention and a lot of therapy, Coby is now pretty much a regular kid in a regular 1st grade class. Last week we participated in a fund-raiser for autism, called "Spare Some for Autism." The kids got to bowl with celebrities, which just happened to be our local hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes (who won the Stanley Cup 2 years ago.) Coby has been a huge fan, knows all the players and announcers, and this was a really big deal for him to get to meet everyone and bowl with them. We go to games quite often, and meeting the players and talking to them meant a lot to him (and to us!). All the kids got bowling pins and sharpies so they could get autographs, and a lot of money was raised for a good cause.

I've Finally Done It!

I've been meaning to start a blog for Coby for a while. I'm real excited about finally getting one up and running. While I'm about 7 years late in starting it, better late than never! So just to remind y'all, Coby is my one and only (at least for now.) He's 7 years old (a December baby), and is in 1st grade. He's a brilliant kid, and hey-it's my blog, so I'm allowed to brag. He reads at a 4th grade level, writes way above his grade level, and is just an all around great boy. Just last week he received a character trait award at school for having integrity. He's now a red belt in TaeKwonDo, about to start playing on a baseball team, and generally loves all sports. Since this is the first blog entry, I'll finish with a bunch of random pictures just to kind of start it off. As I update, I'll add more recent photos. Thanks for reading!
